RPG IV V5
Advanced Topics [ASP-G3]
Duration: 4 days
- Audience:
- Programmers new to the iSeries but who can write basic
RPG IV programs using at Version 5. These programmers will
learn additional skills and techniques, gaining a comprehensive
understanding of RPG IV capabilities.
- Description:
- Review intermediate features and functions of RPG IV for
Version 5R1 V5R2. Trained programmers learn to develop and
maintain RPG IV programs of an advanced level, using the latest
features and techniques with the Version 5 compiler. This
course is intended as an advanced RPG IV course, for the programmer
new to RPG. The very experienced iSeries RPG programmer should
take the 4 day RPG IV V5 Update class instead. [SCC]
- Prerequisites:
- This class is for the RPG IV programmer who has some basic
experience with RPG IV, ILE programming techniques, and WDSC
CODE/400. These prerequisites can be met by the successful
completion of CRS 4, CRS 5 and CRS 6, or equivalent experience.

errors and exceptions

Using prototyping to call other programs and write RPG IV
sub procedures

Writing Integrated Language Environment (ILE) modules and
include those modules in program objects by using bind by
copy and bind by reference

Understanding how to manage display record formats, arrays,
data structures and data areas
