iSeries Performance
Management and Tuning [ASA-P2]
Duration: 4 Days (instructor
led classroom).
- Audience:
- iSeries Business Partners, technical support/services personnel,
and iSeries administrators.
- Description:
- This class is a workshop with each topic support by lab
exercises. Students can use performance data from their own
system(s). The student will learn a methodology to collect,
manage, and report performance data on critical system measurements.
The process of analyzing system performance involves identifying
system tasks, execution priorities, and the resources used.
Through the workshop labs, the process will be taught so that
the student will acquire the skills to efficiently manage
multiple systems.

- Prerequisites:
- Students should have experience with:

Application design and implementation
ü
Operating system principles and concepts
ü
System work load scheduling (interactive, batch, save/restore)
ü
Programming, system administration, and iseries hardware
In preparing for this course, identify and collect three days
of prime shift system performance data and submit it to the
teaching location at least one week prior to the course. This
data will be loaded onto the iSeries and used to run performance
reports and queries.
- Topics:
- Capacity management is the ultimate goal of this workshop.
The complex mix of task and priorities executing in today's
computer systems makes it imperative that capacity management
be and on-going task. Though this workshop, with students
using performance data from their own systems, they will acquire
skills and insights no other class can offer.
